New Mexico does not require voters to present identification while voting, in most cases. However, if a voter is voting for the first time and mailed his or her registration application and did not provide verification of his or her identity at that time, the voter will have to show identification

•New Mexico driver’s license or identification card.
•U.S. passport.
•A valid student ID issued by a post-secondary educational institution in New Mexico.
•A tribal identification card.
Any document that contains an address in the county and one of the following:
•A recent utility bill
•Bank statement
•Government check
•Other government document that shows the name and address of the voter.

Any registered voter in New Mexico can request an absentee ballot without needing a reason. Requests can be made online, by mail, or in person starting 28 days before an election. Completed absentee ballots must be received by the county clerk’s office no later than 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Early voting begins 28 days before the election and continues until the Saturday before Election Day. Voters can visit early voting locations in their county to cast their ballots in person.
