  • Virginia DMV-issued ID card (current or expired)
  • U.S. Military ID
  • U.S. passport or passport card
  • Voter ID card from the Department of Elections
  • Utility bill, bank statement, government check, or paycheck: Yes, within 12 months.
  • Signed ID Confirmation Statement

Apply online or with paper forms for absentee voting. 

  • Military and overseas voters have special procedures. 
  • You can opt to be on the Permanent Absentee List to receive ballots for all future elections. 
  • Track your ballot online after applying.
  • Return your voted ballot by mail or drop-off, ensuring it’s postmarked by Election Day.
  • Emergency absentee voting is available for hospitalization, illness, or unexpected obligations.
  • Early in-person voting starts 45 days before Election Day without needing a reason or application. 
  • Provide an acceptable ID or sign an ID Confirmation Statement.
